The hands that shape the dialogue in Japan
Edition 01 introduces the journey. This subchapter looks more closely at the hands that shape it.
Craft Beyond Borders was conceived as an ongoing dialogue, a conversation carried through materials, gestures, and generations of savoir-faire.
Its true foundation lies in the disciplines that make such encounters possible.
Meet the masters of Obi Weaving
The art Obi weaving celebrates precision.
Traditionally worn as the sash of a kimono, the Obi is among Japan's most sophisticated textile arts. Rich in symbolism, texture, and complexity, these precious fabrics often require months - and sometimes years - of work to be completed.

For this first edition , Delvaux collaborated with Kondaya Genbei, one of Kyoto's most respected weaving ateliers. Established in 1738 in the historic Muromachi district, the familyrun company has preserved and evolved the art of Obi weaving for nearly three centuries.
Inspired by the serenity of Mount Fuji and the perseverance of the Koi fish, these exceptional Obi textiles are reinterpreted through le Tempête XL and le Pin Mini Bucket. A meeting of Japanese weaving traditions and Delvaux's own language of leather.
A Shared Language
Craft Beyond Borders brings Delvaux's artisans into dialogue with masters across the world. A restless pioneer, the Maison moves across geographies in search of artisanal know-how to interpret through its own language.

“I hold the spiritual value of handweaving in very high regard. We as artisans work very hard with the aim of having people see beyond the physical object they are looking at.“
- Genbei Yamaguchi
